Lamu County Governor Issa Timamy has issued scholarships and bursaries worth Ksh 58,173,785 to more than 4,000 Form three and Form four students across the county, in a renewed push to keep financially vulnerable learners in school.

Speaking during the launch at Mokowe Headquarters on May 12, Governor Timamy said the programme targets students at risk of dropping out due to financial hardship, ensuring continuity in learning without interruption.

Under the programme, 904 Form 3 and Form 4 students benefited from scholarships amounting to Ksh 20,808,785. Bursaries worth Ksh 9,480,000 were issued to 3,160 students from Lamu West and those studying outside Lamu County, while 426 students from Lamu East received bursaries totaling Ksh 4,260,000.

“We are determined to ensure that no learner is left behind due to financial challenges. Education remains a top priority in our development agenda,” said Governor Timamy, who pioneered the county scholarship programme during his first tenure as governor.

The Governor said his administration remains committed to strengthening education support initiatives to empower the next generation through learning opportunities.

Education Cabinet Executive Committee Member (CECM) Sebastian Owanga said the county government will implement the remaining phases of the programme within the month to ensure all targeted learners benefit.

“The next programme will be rolled out within the course of the month, targeting the remaining categories of beneficiaries so that all deserving learners are reached in time,” said Owanga.

Governor Timamy also confirmed that Grade 10 students and other remaining categories will be covered in subsequent phases of the education support programme, as the administration continues to invest in education across Lamu County.
