Teso North Member of Parliament (MP) Oku Kaunya on Tuesday, May 5 held a consultative meeting with more than 100 headteachers drawn from across primary schools within the constituency, in a renewed drive to improve academic performance and strengthen school infrastructure.

The engagement brought together education stakeholders to deliberate on key issues affecting learning institutions, including academic outcomes, staffing challenges, and the condition of physical facilities in schools.

Speaking during the meeting, Kaunya said the initiative was aimed at fostering collaboration between school administrators and leadership in order to build a more responsive and effective education system.

He noted that the discussion was not solely focused on examination results, but on developing a shared long-term vision where schools are adequately equipped, teachers are supported, and learners are given equal opportunities to succeed.

“This engagement is about more than results. It is about building a shared vision where every school is equipped, every teacher supported, and every child given a fair chance to succeed,” Kaunya said.

The legislator further emphasized that education remains the most critical driver of social and economic transformation, adding that investment in learning institutions directly translates into stronger communities and improved livelihoods.

“Education remains our strongest tool for transformation. When we invest in our schools, we empower families, strengthen communities, and lay the foundation for long-term development,” he added.

The meeting is expected to pave the way for continued dialogue between the constituency leadership and school heads, with a focus on addressing infrastructural gaps and enhancing overall learning outcomes across the region.
