In a major boost to education within Kiambu Constituency, Member of Parliament (MP) Machua Waithaka has officially declared all day secondary schools in the region fee, backed by a multi-million shilling bursary disbursement.
Speaking during a tour of the constituency that saw stops at Kasarini Secondary School and ACK St. Joseph Riabai Secondary School, the lawmaker emphasized that the financial burden on parents has been lifted to ensure 100% transition and retention in schools.
At ACK St. Joseph Riabai, MP Waithaka delivered a substantial cheque to cover school operations, reiterating his commitment to the Free Day Secondary School Initiative.

He reiterated that no student in any day secondary school within the constituency should pay a single shilling, noting that the fees barrier has been removed entirely.
The MP was joined by Sub-County Director of Education Kigaya and Reverend Kahara, who urged students to treat their education as a “talent” that must not be wasted.
At Kasarini Secondary School, the legislator handed over another cheque worth Ksh 2.1 million, reinforcing the “zero-cent” policy for parents.

Beyond formal classrooms, the legislator addressed the plight of Form Four leavers who may not transition to university. He encouraged youth to enroll in technical short courses, including plumbing, electrical work, and beauty therapy, offered through his office.
Waithaka specifically highlighted the Jitume Center, a digital hub designed to equip youth with tech skills for the global “gig economy.” He noted that the program teaches youth how to secure international contracts online, emphasizing that he does not want to see any children roaming the streets idle.
Earlier in the day, the MP also officially opened a modern administration block at the Kiamumbi Police Station; the new facility, which will also house the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices, replaces dilapidated iron-sheet structures.
Waithaka noted that the upgrade is aimed at restoring dignity to the officers and improving security efficiency for residents.
In a personal moment with students, the MP addressed the rising cases of depression among the youth, urging them to seek help through his office or designated counselors. He encouraged them to aim for high-achieving careers as pilots and engineers, and even invited them to aspire to leadership roles.
