President William Ruto has outlined the importance of earlier remittance of capitation to learning institutions, as compared to the previous delayed system.
Ruto said the system was tried in the first and second terms, which performed better as it enabled earlier preparation before the schools opened.
Speaking at Njiiri School in Kigumo, Murang’a, Ruto said his administration, owing to the support of education programmes, realised the need to remit capitation to schools earlier.
“ By April 24, the schools were in receipt of the capitation amounting to Sh 23 billion,” said the head of state, who was accompanied by Land and Housing Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, and Murang’a MPs Sabina Chege and Betty Maina.
He said he will personally facilitate the construction of 30 classrooms and six laboratories following a plea by the school’s principal, Stephen Gathii.

“In the Nairobi area and more in the informal sector, the government is building 1,000 classrooms owing to the need to promote education for our children,” he said.
He added that the Ministry of Education will allocate a kitty of Sh 70 million to finance the construction of an administration block.
“The school will also get a 72-seater bus, while the roads within the compound will be tarmacked, and the Ministry of Lands and Housing will construct a dormitory that will accommodate 1,000 students,” said the President.
