Bungoma Boys crowned U19 rugby champions in a dramatic two-day Misikhu tournament

Bungoma Boys High School have emerged champions of the U19 Rugby Tournament, a two-day competition staged at St. Cecilia Misikhu Girls Senior School, after a dramatic final that ended level before being decided by a toss.

The tournament which brought together several schools from the region, split into two pools, and featured intense fixtures that highlighted growing depth and competitiveness in school rugby.

Pool A comprised Bungoma Boys High School, Webuye School, Butere Boys, Maliki and Kamusinde, while Pool B included St. Anthony Boys Kitale, Nzoia Industrial Training Institute, BorderBulls Malaba, Bokoli Falcons and Kimobo.

From the onset, the competition delivered tightly contested matches. Webuye School handed Bungoma Boys High School, an early setback with a narrow 12–7 win, while St. Anthony Boys Kitale impressed with a 28–14 victory over Nzoia Industrial Training Institute.

Bungoma Boys High School, however, regained momentum with strong performances, including a 31–7 win over Butere Boys and a dominant 28–0 result against Kamusinde. In Pool B, Bokoli Falcons registered a commanding 48–12 win over Nzoia Industrial Training Institute, underlining their attacking strength.

The knockout stage intensified the contest. Bungoma Boys High School produced a disciplined display to eliminate Bokoli Falcons 19–0 in the semi-finals, while St. Anthony Boys Kitale edged Maliki 9–7 in a closely fought encounter to book their place in the final.

The final lived up to expectations, with Bungoma Boys High School and St. Anthony Boys Kitale locked at 7–7 after full time in a tightly balanced contest defined by strong defensive organization and tactical discipline from both sides.

With no winner after regulation time, the champions were decided by a toss, handing Bungoma Boys High School the title in dramatic circumstances.

Despite the unusual conclusion, Bungoma Boys High School were widely praised for their consistency, resilience, and strong knockout performance across the two-day tournament, which showcased the rising standards of school rugby in the region.
