Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba on Saturday combined a show of solidarity with a renewed push for union leadership, leading national KUPPET officials to a burial ceremony in Vihiga County.
The leaders joined teachers and mourners during the send-off of Evalyne Opiayo Nziwa, the wife of Vihiga KUPPET Chairman Francis Kulali, in a ceremony marked by tributes and calls for unity within the teaching fraternity.
Addressing the gathering, Milemba conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, describing the loss as one that had touched not only the family but also the wider education community. He emphasised the importance of standing together as teachers, particularly in times of grief.

The MP, who is seeking re-election in the upcoming KUPPET polls, used the occasion to outline his leadership agenda and urged teachers to back his bid. He pledged to continue advocating for their welfare and professional interests if granted another term.
Top on his agenda is implementing the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which he said should be executed in two phases to ensure effective rollout and sustainability. He maintained that improved remuneration and working conditions remain central to teachers’ concerns.

Milemba also pointed to the need for structural reforms in the education sector, citing Sessional Paper No. 1 of 2025 as key to securing autonomy for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).
On remuneration issues, he raised concerns over delays in payments by the Kenya National Examinations Council, particularly for teachers involved in national examinations. He said efforts would be made to ensure payments are processed in good time, preferably before the marking exercise begins.
He further called for improvements in the Social Health Authority (SHA), noting that challenges facing the system must be addressed to guarantee efficient service delivery for teachers and the public.

Milemba also acknowledged support from various stakeholders, including the Kenya National Union of Teachers, KUPPET representatives, and other teacher groups, describing it as a sign of confidence in his leadership.

The event brought together educators from across the country, highlighting both the solidarity within the profession and the growing momentum ahead of the KUPPET elections.
