President Ruto appoints Paul Russo, Kevit Desai and Rita Kavashe as Chancellors in latest leadership changes

President William Ruto has appointed KCB Group CEO, Paul Russo as the Chancellor of Kibabii University for a five‑year term, marking one of several high‑profile changes in university leadership announced through a gazette notice dated April 2, 2026.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya, appoint Paul Russo (CPA) to be the Chancellor of Kibabii University, for a period of five (5) years, with effect from 2nd April, 2026,” the notice read.

Russo’s appointment was part of a broader reshuffle that also saw Dr. Kevit Desai named Chancellor of Kabianga University for a similar five‑year term. In addition, Rita Kavashe was appointed Chancellor of Pwani University, also for five years, effective April 2, 2026.

The appointments, made under Section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, reflect the government’s push to strengthen leadership in public universities and enhance their role in delivering quality education.

Beyond the universities, the education sector also witnessed changes at national polytechnics. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba appointed Eng. Njenga Benjamin Kahura as Non‑Executive Chairperson of the Kabete National Polytechnic Council. Honey Abdi Mohamud was re‑appointed as a council member for three years, while Cornelius Kibet Some was named to the Kipsoen National Polytechnic Council for a similar term.
