Nyabitunwa location Chief Gideon Mokua has issued a stern warning to parents who are abetting child labour activities that are denying children access to education, saying that he will arrest and prosecute them.
Addressing a public forum in Kenyenya Subcounty, Kisii County, the administrator emphasized that forcing children to skip school to engage in activities like brick-making and playing cards is a contravention of the law and a violation of children’s rights.
“According to the Children Act (2010), every child has the right to education, and it’s the responsibility of parents and guardians to ensure they access it. Section 4(1) of the Act states that “Every child has the right to education, whose primary purpose shall be to develop the child’s personality, talents and mental and physical abilities to their fullest potential.” He quoted

He reiterated that denying children education can have severe consequences, including increased risk of child labor and exploitation, poor future prospects, and economic instability. “It can also perpetuate poverty cycles and negatively impact national development.”
Chief Mokua urged parents to prioritize their children’s education, noting that investing in a child’s education is investing in the future of our community and nation.
He warned that parents found guilty of denying their children education will face the full force of the law.
“The Kenya Police Service and the Ministry of Education are working together to enforce the law and protect children’s rights. If you know of any cases of child neglect or exploitation, report them to the authorities.” He said
