Former St. Patrick’s High School, Iten student Edmund Serem has once again made his alma mater proud after producing a brilliant performance to win the men’s 3,000m steeplechase at the Commonwealth Championships, leading Kenya to a historic podium sweep.
Serem stormed to victory in a time of 8:18.2, ahead of fellow Kenyans Simon Kiprop Koech, who clocked 8:18.5 for silver and Leonard Kipkemoi Bett, who secured bronze in 8:21.6.
The all-Kenyan podium underlined the country’s continued dominance in the steeplechase while highlighting the quality of athletes nurtured at St. Patrick’s High School.
A member of the school’s Class of 2023, Serem has enjoyed a meteoric rise in international athletics.
He first captured global attention by winning the men’s 3,000m steeplechase title at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships before progressing to the senior ranks, where he has consistently challenged the world’s best athletes. His latest triumph further confirms his place among Kenya’s emerging distance running stars.
