Prof. Christopher Ngacho assumes office as MMUST Deputy Vice Chancellor

Prof. Christopher Ngacho has officially assumed office as the Deputy Vice Chancellor  (DVC) for Planning, Research, and Innovation at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology ( MMUST), taking over from Prof. Peter Bukhalal in a formal ceremony held on March 9, 2026.

The handover ceremony marked a seamless transition in leadership within the university’s Division of Planning, Research, and Innovation. During the event, Prof. Bukhalal transferred vital institutional documents to Prof. Ngacho, including the University Master Plan, Strategic Plan, and Monitoring & Evaluation Report. The handover of these documents underscored the commitment of MMUST to maintain continuity in its strategic programs and research initiatives.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Ngacho emphasized his dedication to advancing the university’s research agenda and innovation-driven programs. He highlighted the importance of leveraging planning frameworks to ensure that the institution remains responsive to national and regional development goals.

“I am honored to take on this responsibility. My focus will be to strengthen research capacity, enhance innovation, and ensure that the university’s planning initiatives deliver measurable impact,” he said.

Prof. Bukhalal, who has been credited with laying a strong foundation for research and strategic planning, expressed confidence in Prof. Ngacho’s ability to lead the Division forward. He noted that the handover was a demonstration of the university’s commitment to professional leadership, stability, and institutional growth.

University staff and faculty who attended the ceremony described the transition as a significant milestone, reflecting both continuity and progress in the university’s administrative and academic structures. They noted that a smooth leadership change is crucial for sustaining ongoing projects, research programs, and strategic initiatives.

As the new Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ngacho will oversee planning, research, and innovation activities at MMUST. His role will include coordinating research programs, monitoring institutional performance, and ensuring that the university remains a center for knowledge creation and innovation.

Under Prof. Ngacho’s leadership, MMUST is poised to strengthen its position as a leading institution in research and innovation in Kenya, enhancing its contribution to national development and regional academic excellence.
