The Narok County Secondary School term one games scheduled to take place today have been postponed to next week as the County mourns the death of Johanna Ng’eno and four other residents who perished in a helicopter crash.

The tragic accident occurred on Saturday, February 28 at Chepkiep, leaving the county in deep mourning.

Confirming the postponement, Jacob Barusei, the Secretary of the Narok County Secondary School Sports Association, said the decision was made to allow students, teachers, and school officials to join the rest of the region in honouring the victims.

Barusei noted that proceeding with the games during such a difficult time would not have been appropriate, considering the impact of the tragedy on the county.

“This is a very painful moment for Narok County. As a sports association, we found it necessary to postpone the games so that the school community can join other residents in mourning the late MP Johana Ng’eno and the four others who lost their lives in the helicopter crash,” said Barusei.

He added that many schools had already expressed their wish to take part in the mourning activities, making it difficult for the competitions to proceed as scheduled.

Barusei assured participating schools that the games will now be held next week at Narok Boys High School and Maasai Girls Secondary School sports grounds.

The county school games usually bring together teams from different sub-counties to compete in various disciplines, with winners advancing to regional competitions.

However, this year’s event will take place under a sombre mood as the county continues to grieve the loss of its leaders and residents.
