The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been called upon to investigate alleged irregularities during an internship verification exercise at Korondille Boys Secondary School in Wajir County.

A formal complaint submitted to TSC Headquarters raises concerns over the handling of an internship position involving a teacher listed on the school’s replacement merit list as an intern.

According to the complaint, verification through the TSC system showed the individual’s status as “Not Employed by TSC,” yet the school reportedly treated the teacher as a duly recruited intern.

The complaint further alleges that the teacher never reported to Korondille Boys Secondary School after the purported signing of an internship contract and instead signed an internship agreement at Rabsu Primary and Junior School, contrary to established TSC regulations.

Under TSC procedures, interns who fail to report within the stipulated period are deemed not to have taken up the engagement, and schools are required to declare a vacancy within seven days after the reporting deadline.

In this case, the reporting deadline is said to have lapsed on January 13, with no vacancy declared, meaning the internship engagement should have automatically lapsed.

The petitioner further claims that after concerns were raised during the verification exercise, an attempt was made to retrospectively declare a casualty, an action described as procedurally flawed and unethical.

The complainant argues that the alleged actions undermine transparency and fairness in the internship recruitment process and disadvantage qualified candidates who complied with all requirements.

TSC has now been urged to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities, including the use of a potentially tampered merit list and to take appropriate action to protect the integrity of internship recruitment and verification processes.
