Calm and learning has returned at Magena Girl’s High School in Bomachoge Borabu, Kisii County after fire incident at the institution.

Speaking at the school Kenyenya Subcounty Deputy County Commissioner William Beti assured parents that the 8 students who got minor injuries during the fire outbreak had been treated and discharged from hospital as they resumed their studies.

“We are here with full school Board of Management team and officials from the Ministry of Education to assure the public that our children are safe.”He said.

According to the school Principal Madam Scholastica Kabesa, the fire incident occurred in the later part of Tuesday evening and caused fear and panic among students.

She thanked the community for helping the school managing the fire which consumed 27 beds with some students’ bedding.

The shocked Principal, however declined to name cause of the fire incident saying that the police had started investigations.

Kenyenya Subcounty officer Commanding Police Department (OCS) Samuel Munanda said his officers had started investigations and asked the public to avoid any speculations that may cause more panic to the parents and teachers about the safety of the learners.

“I appeal to the public to be calm and give police enough time to investigate the matter.” He said

Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir who addressed the students assured them of their security.

He said his team will sensitize parents on the need to raise money to erect a perimeter wall to protect the school from exposure to the public that intrude into it.

His message was echoed by the School’s  Board Management Committee Chairman Dr.Geoffrey Otomu who said that the school needs proper fencing to cushion students from any outside danger.

The great fear of fire occurrence at the school came two days after the neighbouring Magena boys’ 7 dormitories were burnt down after students rioted demanding transfer of the Principal over poor 2025 KCSE examination results.
