The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary aspirant Richard Anyango Owuor has urged the government to urgently supply learning materials to schools, particularly in Siaya County, ahead of the anticipated rollout of Grade 10 learning scheduled to begin on Monday next week.

Speaking during a media briefing held at St. Mary’s School, Yala, Anyango expressed concern over the preparedness of schools as the new grade is introduced, noting that adequate teaching and learning resources are critical to the success of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) transition.

He emphasized that timely delivery of textbooks, instructional materials and other essential resources would ensure a smooth take-off of Grade 10 and safeguard the quality of education for learners in the county and beyond.

During the briefing, Anyango also made an appeal to teachers in Siaya County to actively and courageously participate in the upcoming KUPPET elections. He encouraged educators to turn up in large numbers on the Election Day and make informed, independent decisions, describing the exercise as vital to strengthening union leadership and advancing teachers’ welfare.

The aspirant noted that a strong and representative union leadership is key to effective engagement with the government on critical education matters, including funding, staffing and learning resources.

His remarks come at a time when schools across the country are racing against time to prepare for the transition to senior school under the CBE framework, with stakeholders calling for increased government support to ensure a seamless implementation.
