KUPPET Kakamega elects new officials after successful branch elections

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kakamega Branch has elected a new team of officials following successful branch elections, marking a new chapter in the union’s leadership at the county level.

Johnstone Induswe Wabuti emerged as the new Executive Secretary, a key position responsible for the day-to-day administration and implementation of union policies. He will be deputised by Latiff Nyangweso, who was elected Assistant Executive Secretary.

Delegates also elected Ronald Livanze Mwani as the new Chairperson, entrusting him with the responsibility of providing overall leadership and representing teachers’ interests in engagements with education stakeholders. Wilbroda Shinanda was elected Vice Chair.

The union’s financial affairs will be managed by Treasurer Damary Kisiang’ani, assisted by Mercy Kagai Ozengo Galo, who was elected Vice Treasurer.

In the representative and sectoral positions, Joyce Musungu Sande was elected Secretary for Gender, supported by Lucy Lumiti as First Gender Secretary and Joseph Ombango as Second Gender Secretary, reinforcing the union’s commitment to inclusivity and equity.

Festus Spira was elected Secretary for Tertiary Institutions, while Benard Wakhu Wechuli will represent secondary school teachers as Secretary Secondary. The Junior Secondary School (JSS) docket was won by Kennedy Wandia Makunda, popularly known as Weaver, reflecting increased focus on the emerging JSS sector.

Cavine Were Wamache was elected Organising Secretary and will oversee mobilisation and coordination of union activities across the county. Youth representation will be handled by Emmanuel Wandera, also known as Proff, who was elected Youth Representative.

The elections were conducted peacefully, with members expressing confidence that the new leadership will strengthen advocacy for teachers’ welfare, improve engagement with employers, and enhance unity within the union.

The newly elected officials are expected to assume office immediately as KUPPET Kakamega Branch positions itself to address emerging challenges in the education sector and advance the interests of its members.
