Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has asked Kenyans studying and working in the Diaspora to invest back at home and demand better governance.

Speaking during a meeting with a section of Kenyans and East African citizens residing in Chicago, United States, at the sidelines of the ongoing illiberal democracy and its impact globally program, Mwangangi said the diaspora population remains a critical development partner.

He said Machakos is a rapidly growing investment hub in Kenya due to its proximity to the capital city and major transport corridors, including the Standard Gauge Railway, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, and the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.

The DG added that any investor setting up a factory in Machakos will find it easy to transport goods by road, rail, and air.

He asked Kenyans in the Diaspora to be good ambassadors and help woo investors to the country.

“Other than remitting finances back home, think also about investing in Kenya because that is how the African continent will grow,” Mwangangi told the Diaspora audience.

“You also need to put pressure on policymakers back home because they are there to serve you. The developed countries progressed because of leaders who prioritised service to their people,” he added.
