Parents have been called upon to exercise extra caution and care for their children, particularly school-going pupils and students, during this festive season.
Speaking during an interdenominational prayer meeting held at the newly formed Abogeta Sub-county headquarters in Meru County, Abogeta Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Richard Tuwei urged parents to prioritise their children’s well-being and closely monitor their movements.
“I appeal to parents not to spoil their children with excessive goodies during this festive season and forget that January 2026 is just around the corner, when schools will reopen, and school fees will need to be paid,” said Tuwei.
Tuwei emphasised the importance of parental involvement, noting that many parents are too preoccupied with work and fail to spend adequate time with their children, leaving them vulnerable to immoral behaviour during such festive periods.
Catholic priest Fr. Raphael Raing’oi echoed Tuwei’s sentiments, highlighting the risks that children, particularly school-going children, face during festive seasons such as Christmas.
“This is a time when many children fall into drug and substance abuse or engage in early sexual behaviour, leading to unwanted pregnancies and ruining their futures,” said Fr. Raing’oi.

The interdenominational prayer meeting, which brought together residents, local leaders, clergy, and Subcounty staff, was held to seek divine intervention for the community and the newly established Abogeta Sub-county.
Fr. Raing’oi announced that similar prayers would be held annually at the Sub-county headquarters to foster unity and spiritual growth among the residents.
He also expressed gratitude for the establishment of the new Sub-county, noting that it brings services closer to the people.
Fr. Raing’oi emphasised the need for the parents to educate their children and support them, adding that education was a unifying factor between the poor and the rich.
Today’s event marked a historic moment as the leadership, clergy, and residents of the newly formed Abogeta Sub-county gathered in unity for prayer and reflection.
