Makueni Governor calls for establishment of BOM to curb school arson cases

Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo jr has called for the immediate establishment of schools Board of Management, (BoM) to curb the rampant cases of arsons in schools.

Speaking in Kibwezi, Kilonzo jr said discipline cases cannot be handled by school Principals alone in the void of BoMs.

He also called upon Teachers Service Commission, (TSC) and Education Directors to come up with solution of curbing reported school unrests.

“I have spoken to the new county director of education Lydia Wangechi and she has told me that the swearing in of new board of directors has not taken place. I am calling upon this serious issue to be taken with the seriousness it deserves.

Mutula noted that those who have already established their boards did the induction in May, noting that failure to establish the boards of management could spiral out bigger problems in the schools.

Mutula added that the unrests starts like in the third term and if not controlled many schools face the same, saying that discipline cases are handled by the boards and without them it will be hard to solve these cases.

This came after Mbooni boys, Kalawa boys faced unrests since schools opened.

Mutula was speaking to bodaboda operators who had come to protest the murder of their slain operator who was brutally killed in Kibwezi.

The governor promised justice for the slain bodaboda operator Sammy Sikuku who was set on fire in Kibwezi town adding that the killers will face the law since no one has a right to take away someone’s life.

The case is being heard at the Makueni law courts.
