Rugby fans celebrated with joy and dance for the rest of Thursday and part of Friday morning after learning about Kisii National School’s win at the recently concluded East African Championship held in Kakamega County.
Isaac Magneto of Kisii School did it all in the second half to see their arch-rivals, Saints, back at 11-6 in a fiercely contested game at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.
At the start, it was Matrix Matangi who took an aggressive move to score a penalty for Kisii school, which left all Saints Embu panicking at 3-0. However, Josephat Karanja of Embu replied with a gallant score to balance the score at 3-3.

It was more of a one-man fight between Matangi of Kisii School and Karanja of All Saints Embu, who kept on wrestling neck to neck until Embu fell prey to Kisii’s tricks this year’s KSSSA national silver King.
Speaking to Education News on the phone, News, Kisii National Senior Fred Mogaka said it took faith in God and determination to achieve success. The arch-rivals, God my boys and their entire Kisii fraternity, who supported us in all steps to come this far,” he said.
Kisii School coach-coach Aston Lee said he was extremely happy that his team had moved a step closer to holding a gold medal in the East Africa Secondary Schools Championship.
” We have made it through a hard struggle, but this is not the end, as we aim higher than that, ” he said
The jubilant coach promised to prove to the world that Rugby was created in Nyanza and thanked the school management for providing him with all possible support to mould the boys into great champions.
Kisii Central MCA Monyenye Yoge, who is also the former Mayor of Kisii town, said he believed that Kisii School has all it takes to excel in both academics and sports, and asserted his desire to be associated with the school.
