Uganda’s Kakungulu Memorial, Kenya’s St. Luke’s Kimilili Boys and Kisii School were the major headline-makers on Thursday as the 2025 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games served up drama across hockey, handball and rugby.
Kakungulu Memorial confirmed their status as the region’s dominant hockey side after securing the boys’ title with a commanding 3–0 victory over Kenya’s St. Charles Lwanga in their final round-robin fixture. The result capped an unbeaten campaign in which they collected 19 points from six wins and one draw. Their consistency throughout the tournament, combining attacking efficiency with a tight defense, ensured they remained out of reach for rivals.
The handball semifinals provided further excitement as St. Luke’s Kimilili Boys battled past Uganda’s Bombo Army 33–27 to claim a spot in the final. The Kenyan side showed resilience in a tense encounter, pulling clear in the closing minutes to seal the win. They will now face Rwanda’s Adegi in the championship match. The two teams know each other well, having played out a dramatic 24–24 draw during the group stage. With a trophy on the line, the rematch is expected to be fiercely contested.

Rugby produced the day’s biggest upset, as Kisii School of Kenya dethroned defending champions All Saints Embu in the fifteens final. Kisii held firm in defense and took their chances to claim an 11–6 win in a bruising contest. The result sparked wild celebrations from their supporters and ended Embu’s run at the top of East African schools rugby. The victory delivered Kisii their first regional rugby title and underlined the growing competitiveness of Kenyan secondary school rugby.
The performances highlighted the depth of talent across the region as schools from Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda stamped their authority in different codes. Kakungulu’s hockey triumph underlined Uganda’s strength on the turf, Kimilili’s march to the handball final kept Kenyan hopes alive in one of the tournament’s most physical sports, and Kisii’s rugby success reminded fans of the unpredictable nature of the Games.
As the FEASSSA Games move towards their conclusion this weekend, anticipation is building around the remaining finals. With bragging rights and regional dominance on the line, the tournament continues to showcase the fierce rivalries and rising standards of secondary school sport across East Africa.
