Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga has decried the rising cases of murders of school girls in Gem constituency, saying several cases of that nature have been reported to the local police but no action is yet to be taken.
He further called for the arrest of the suspected serial killer who has been at large, condemning the recent killings in Gem, including the brutal murder of student identified as Elizabeth Ochieng.
He urged security agencies to convene an urgent meeting to address the rising insecurity in the area, also citing the killings of security guards in Yala town.
A suspected serial killer was recently snatched from the police in Gem, however, the city manager condemned the incident alluding that it could be a case of mistaken identity.
Wanga noted that the rising incidents of rape and killing of schoolgirls in Gem constituency must be addressed by all stakeholders from the area.

He said the rising cases of femicide targeting innocent girls in the area were causing concern and concerted efforts are required to bring the perpetrators to book.
Speaking in Gem constituency, Wanga said that should the police fail, then the government should consider deploying the Kenya Defense Forces to comb the area and deal with the menace once and for all.
“We have had a series of deaths involving young girls in Gem, a young girl was ambushed while going to school in Yala by people who allegedly raped and killed her.” Wanga said.
His remarks comes after the body of a teenage girl was discovered dead at the Nyamninia KBC compound in Yala, Siaya County on Tuesday morning.
The body was identified as belonging to a seventeen-year-old Form Three student in the neighborhood.
Children going to school who first discovered the body said it had partial clothing, suggesting violence or a struggle before succumbing to death.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the girl was raped before her assailants took her life.

Charles Wafula, Gem sub-County Police Commander confirmed that his officers processed the scene before moving the body to Yala sub-County Hospital morgue.
This was just a day after another girl was waylaid early in Mindhine in Sagam, East Gem ward and killed.
Abaia has therefore challenged the police to rise to the occasion and ensure that the culprits were weeded out of the society and made to face justice.
“Gem has for a long time, been a peaceful place but suddenly there is an upsurge of gender-based violence. The runaway insecurity must be addressed by the security organs.” He said
Wanga wondered what work chiefs and their assistants were doing in Gem, saying that they must be sleeping on the job.
Wanga regretted that attempts to convene a security were all in vain, hence now calling on the Siaya county commissioner to convene a stakeholders meeting saying that he will not sit back and see school girls being murdered.
