All is set for this year’s East Africa Schools Ball Games set for Kakamega County. The championship’s official opening ceremony, initially scheduled for tomorrow, has been rescheduled for Friday.
Organisers, however, said all the matches scheduled to be played on Friday will be played tomorrow, except the curtain-raiser between Kenya’s Musingu Boys High School vs. Kizuka from Tanzania.
They said the main launch had been postponed to Friday due to the busy schedule of President William Ruto, who will preside over the ceremony.
Excitement is wafting through the town as traders prepare to cash in on the event.
Teams from neighbouring countries started arriving in the County in style, while their officials exuded confidence in their success.
The schools from Uganda arrived in a long convoy with their leader, Okot B’Pitek, saying they were confident of victories.
“We came as a team and we are confident that we shall go back to Uganda with nothing short of victories,” he added.
The official hailed the Kenyan government and local organisers for the way they welcomed and guided them.

Kenya’s Butere Boys will be among the first on the pitch from 8:30 am today in the boys’ soccer against Buddo Secondary from Uganda. The match will be staged at St. Ignatius Mukumu Boys High School.
The other will be Kenya’s St. Joseph’s Kitale aka “JOBO” vs. Rugunga from Rwanda, in a match to be played at Kakamega High School.
They will be followed by Highway Secondary from Kenya against Amus College of Uganda, at the Kakamega Approved School.
Next will be St. Mary’s Kitende from Uganda vs. Mpanda of Burundi, at Mukumu Boys.
The Western regional education coordinator Jared Obiero said security had been heightened at the venues, villages and across the County to ensure safety of the participants and fans.
