The Ministry of Health, (MoH) has revoked internship placements for 306 Bachelor of Science in nursing graduates after discovering they had not met the academic requirements necessary for the 2025/2026 internship cohort. The decision follows a comprehensive review of the 2,098 pre-interns posted on July 1, 2025, which revealed that the affected individuals had not officially graduated and were therefore ineligible for internship placement.
According to a letter signed by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, the Ministry has also revoked 42 earlier placements, bringing the total number of cancellations to 348.
“The posting offers for 306 BSc Nurses have been revoked, in addition to the 42 previously revoked on 21st July, 2025,” the statement read. Internship centres hosting the affected candidates have been duly informed of the decision.

The revocations span across 20 universities, with Baraton University accounting for the highest number at 92. Uzima University followed with 28 revoked placements, Egerton University with 27, and Daystar University with 26. Other institutions affected include the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (21), Embu University (16), Kenyatta University and Kirinyaga University (14 each), and Kaimosi University (13). Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology had 11 revoked placements, while nine other universities contributed the remaining 44.
In a corrective move, the Ministry also identified a separate group of 316 nursing graduates who had been mistakenly excluded from the initial posting despite meeting all eligibility criteria. These individuals will now be included in the 2025/2026 internship cohort. According to the letter, the newly added interns hail from Pwani University (48), South Eastern Kenya University (6), UMMA University (2), and other institutions contributing the remaining 260.
The Ministry has advised the 316 eligible pre-interns to collect their internship offer letters in person on Friday, 1st August 2025, starting at 7:00 a.m. at Afya House, MoH Headquarters in Nairobi. Offer letters will only be issued to individuals presenting a valid National Identity Card.
