Kilifi youth who completed KCSE advised to join VTCS for basic technical skills

Youth in Kilifi county who completed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education ( KCSE ) have been advised to join Vocational and Training Centres ( VTCS ) near them to acquire basic technical skills.

Speaking to Education News in his office in Kilifi town recently, Kilifi County Executive Committee Member in charge of Education, Kaingu Ndena said that technical skills will enable the youth in the region to get opportunities in the job market.

He further urged parents to encourage their children who completed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education to enroll into Vocational and Training Centres to be imparted with basic technical skills in various fields.

He, however lamented that many youth in the region have not joined the available Vocational and Training Centres, instead they are only loitering in the streets of urban centres in the county.

Additionally, Ndena stated that joining technical centres is the right direction to go since the young people will get basic technical skills, hence get opportunities in the job market.

He also revealed that students registered in the Vocational and Training Centres will get a bursary of Kshs15,000 each from the county government.

“Technical Training Institutions play an important role in the country that of preparing the youth for future self-employment,” he noted.

Currently the county has a total of 44 Vocational and Training Centres manned by 120 instructors, and 300 more instructors will be employed by the county government to cope with the ever increasing number of students in the VTCS.

At the same time, Ndena disclosed that the county government has already set a side Kshs538 million for the implantation of Vocational and Training Centres and Early Childhood Development Education development projects in the region.
