Kisii County Watch and Governance Secretary Rachael Otundo has asked parents to engage their children with their grandparents during the school holidays to enable them get early fundamental life lessons to enable them live better when they will be adults.
He blamed the current quick global changes influenced by advanced technology for alienating children from their parents who play a big in shaping their early lives.
“Most parents have delegated their duties to mold their children without knowing there essential social gaps among our children that can be filled only by parents.” She said.
She asked the Ministry of education to employ special people like retired teachers with indigenous knowledge that valued respect and manners to help children and young teachers in school to restore respect between the youth and adults for a health society.

Otundo who spoke to the public in Kisii County expressed fear of more learned people with good degrees from reputable Universities who lack employment because their moral chapters are found wanting during the job placement interviews.
Saying that “Respect your elders in order for your days to be increased on earth” has become obsolete that connotes an ugly wrinkled face and wagging finger but out world becomes continuously self-centered and apathetic, she stressed seemingly more important once ever to encourage the youth to mind their manners and behaviour towards elders.
She asked teachers and parents to train courteous gestures to enable them grow selfless attitude that value other peoples’ varied way of thinking without inviting hatred which leads to division.
“This is important because courtesy is cool as it trains the youth on how to gain respect for themselves as they show it for adults and all ages.” She said.
The Secretary reprimanded some two youths who called elected leaders names amidst cheers from the mourners at Sengera- Bosoti ward during the burial of the late retired head teacher Jeremiah Nyang’ara.

She said that burial ceremonies are solemn occasions to give the departed their final respect and asked the youth to restrain themselves from venting any malicious speeches to their perceived enemies during the occasion for it might end up haunting them if they defy some unwritten African law.
The Occasion that was attended by former CS for education Dr.Fred Matingi and many political leaders including Bobasi, Both Bomachoge’s Kitutu Chache South and Kisii County Senator,Innocent Obiri, Obadiah Barongo,Alpa Miruka,Anthoney Kibagendi and Richard Onyonka respectively, lauded the Nyang’ara as an educator who left a legacy in the education field.
Quoting British Novelist Lawrence Stern,Makabe asked the youth to uphold respect for themselves to guide their morals as respect for others will respect their manners.
