Preparation in top gear, as Western region organizes for Term II KSSSA games

Preparations are in top gear as St. Peter’s Mumias Boys High School readies itself to host the 2025 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Western Region Term Two Games, scheduled from July 9th to 12th.

The prestigious event will bring together top-performing school teams from Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, and Busia counties in a thrilling showdown across soccer and volleyball disciplines.

In girls’ soccer, defending county champions and emerging challengers have been drawn into two competitive pools.

Pool A features the high-flying Brenda Girls (Bungoma) and Kingandole Girls (Busia), both top seeds, alongside Arch Bishop Njenga (Kakamega) and Ibubi Girls (Vihiga). In Pool B, all eyes will be on perennial favorites Butere Girls (Kakamega) and Madira Girls (Vihiga) as they clash with Chakol Girls (Busia) and Mbakalo Girls (Bungoma) in what promises to be a tactical and physical contest.

On the boys’ soccer front, traditional powerhouses and rising stars are set to collide. Pool A will feature Musingu High (Kakamega) and Kibabii High (Bungoma), both known for their deep rosters and fast-paced play, facing off against Mabunge RC (Busia) and Emusire High (Vihiga). Pool B assembles a well-balanced field including John Osogo Boys (Busia), Ebwali High (Vihiga), Butere Boys (Kakamega), and Teremi Boys (Bungoma)—each bringing unique strengths to the pitch.

In volleyball, the boys’ and girls’ contests are expected to deliver electrifying action. For the boys, Pool A includes giants Malava Boys (Kakamega) alongside Kegoye (Vihiga), Butula (Busia), and Cheptais (Bungoma). Pool B features equally formidable opposition with Mukumu Boys (Kakamega), Vihiga High, Mt. Olive (Busia), and Namwela Boys (Bungoma).

In the girls’ volleyball competition, Pool A comprises Mwitoti Girls (Kakamega), Tigoi Girls (Vihiga), and Bungoma-based duo St. Mary’s and Savana Girls, promising a high-caliber display of skill. Pool B will be headlined by the renowned Lugulu Girls (Bungoma) and Bishop Sulumeti Girls, Lugari (Kakamega), joined by Mudavadi Girls (Vihiga) and Bumala Girls (Busia)all vying for regional dominance.

With national qualification on the line, this year’s Term Two Games are expected to offer not just fierce competition, but a celebration of talent, resilience, and the spirit of school sports. As the whistle blows in Mumias, Western Kenya’s best will take to the field and court with one goal in mind: victory and a ticket to the nationals.
