Overnight, heavy rain has forced Kisii County, Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association officials to relocate this year’s Term Two competitions from Nyachogochogo Secondary School to other suitable venues.
In an urgent brief notice from the competition Secretary, Geoffrey Nyantika, concerned teams were instructed to prepare and report to the specified venues, regretting the sudden change of venue.
“Due to heavy rainfall, we are relocating to the following venues and we are sorry for the inconvenience and wish you the best …,” reads part of the notice.
According to the message, teams participating in volleyball and netball will play at Nyabite DOK Secondary School. Meanwhile, Nyamache Stadium will host girls’ soccer, while boys’ soccer teams will meet at Magena Primary School.

Team managers and coaches who spoke to Education News expressed their concern about unpredictable weather changes. They asked games planners to learn a lesson from today’s occurrence for proper future meetings.
“Schools like Nyabite are too much in the village, and this will make our players uncomfortable as they will be deep in the village.” Said one team coach.
He blamed the planners for not taking players to proper fields like those in Kenya and Sameta, because these fields are well-drained and accessible by using the many available school buses.
