Onjiko Boys win Nyando schools football title after Katolo appeal forces replay

Katolo Secondary School’s journey in the Nyando Sub-County football competition came to a dramatic close today after they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Onjiko Boys High School in a tense replay match held at Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

The two sides were meeting again after their original final on June 7, which Onjiko had won 2-0 at their home ground. However, Katolo successfully lodged an appeal with the County Education Office, alleging that Onjiko had fielded ineligible players. The appeal was upheld, leading to the nullification of the earlier result and a replay being scheduled at a neutral venue.

The highly anticipated match at Moi Stadium drew large crowds and was closely contested from start to finish. Onjiko managed to edge out Katolo with a solitary goal in the second half, securing the official sub-county title and a spot in the regional championships.

The win cements Onjiko’s position as Nyando Sub-County champions, and they will now proceed to represent the region at the next level of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games.
