A Form Four student at Ekalakala Secondary School in Masinga, Machakos County, died by suicide on Sunday evening in the school dormitory bathroom.
Confirming the incident, Ekalakala area Chief Timothy Nzioka said the student had earlier confided in her friends that she felt her life had come to an end.
According to the chief, the girl had actively participated in Sunday worship at the school, where she even prayed for her fellow students before hanging herself later that evening.

Chief Nzioka urged parents to maintain open communication with their children to help identify and resolve issues before they escalate.
“I arrived at the school, addressed the rioting students, and explained the situation to calm them down. It’s disheartening for parents, especially when they have high expectations for their children to be hit by such news,” said the chief.
The student’s body was taken to Mbaku Funeral Home as investigations into the incident continue.
