Children advised to avoid Gen Z protests during holiday

Kisii Branch KUPPET Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha. He has asked school children to avoid Gen Z protests during holidays.

Education officers in Kisii County have warned school children against joining countrywide Gen Z protests, saying they risk being attacked and ruining their lives.

Both Kisii KUPPET Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha and Nyamache Sub-county KESSHA chairman Benard Ochieng’ urged the children to stay at home during the upcoming holidays.

They appealed to school heads to release their students for the August holidays on Monday, Wednesday or Friday to avoid being caught up in the protests organized on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“I urge parents and guardians to monitor their children and ensure that they are not involved in the protests. We do not want to lose any child,” Abincha said.

The duo spoke at Nyachogochogo Mixed Secondary School during an education-cum-prize giving event for last year’s KCSE candidates.

Ochieng, flanked by the association’s Secretary Zachary Keronche and county secondary school games Treasurer Madaraka Nyakweba  said it will be wrong for schools to release children during protests.

“We do not want students to take part in the protests. We want them to be safe and return to school in September healthy,” Ochieng’ said.

Keronche said the children have been given assignments by their respective teachers and implored parents to monitor their activities and ensure they complete them before schools re-open.

Nyakweba challenged the school children attending the games to shun Tuesdays and Thursdays to avoid protesters and conflict with security officers.

School Principal Dr Julius Keng’iti appealed to students joining universities to embrace moral values and virtues they acquired at the school.
