Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has called on warring communities in Baringo to give dialogue a chance to arrive at a long lasting solution to conflict.
Speaking during a three-day tour of Baringo, Ole Sapit said the church is fully committed to addressing the worsening insecurity that has led to closure of more than ten schools in Baringo North and South constituencies.
He decried the sorry living conditions of internally displaced locals in Moinonin and called for urgent intervention by local leaders and professionals to end banditry that has so far claimed many lives.
“We are very confident that our concerted efforts between the clergy, elites and leaders from affected regions will yield fruit. It is only through dialogue between the warring factions that development will thrive,” he said.
In a memorandum read by Mukutani Ward Administrator John Kimosop on behalf of the communities, it was affirmed that their Integral role in embracing peace was ripe despite challenges.
Kimosop urged the government to swiftly address the vice by deploying more security personnel to beef up security.
He said the communities have suffered perpetuated circles of poverty, loss of livelihoods, food insecurity and closure of some schools indefinitely since 2011.
