Road users cautioned against endangering lives of children in mid-term

Road users in Nyamira County have been caution against reckless driving that has cost many people their lives, including school-going children.

Masaba North Boda boda chairman Dominic Babu said that many accidents occur near market centres and schools where there is a lot of traffic and crowds.

“I appeal to out motorists to be very careful on the road especially during this mid-term break when our children are at home,” he said.

Addressing all Boda boda riders at Keroka town, he listed some of the causes of road accidents as distracted driving, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, night rides, and faulty headlights.

He told motorists to switch their lights on at dusk, dawn and when it is raining, besides keeping their machines in good condition through regular servicing.

The chairman asked parents to advise their children to use safe means of transport when they are going to school and returning home by boarding only those vehicles and motor circles that are compliant and roadworthy.

He accused traffic police of collecting bribes and allowing unroadworthy vehicles and motorcycles to continue operating freely, eventually causing accidents.
