Senator Okong’o Omogeni of Nyamira County has accused President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government of exploitation and oppression of teachers, denouncing the housing programme as illegal because it did not seek their consent.
“This is day light robbery by those who are in power who prey on teachers by digging deeper into their meagre salaries,” he said.
The Senator asked the government to increase salaries for teachers or employ more of them to enable them get money and start projects of their own choice.
Saying that each person has the right to choose the type of life they want to live, he asked President Ruto’s government to stop intimidating teachers instead of motivating them with financial packages for the good work they do.
Addressing two separate church congregations in Borabu Constituency Sunday, he accused the government of targeting people from the community and lowering or sacking them from influential government positions, giving the examples of Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o and a teacher from Nyamira who was demoted from post of Deputy Director of Education.
His message was echoed by former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire, who asked President Ruto to stop dividing Kenyans along political lines.
He asked the President to activate the establishment of Nyamira University, which he said was overdue.
“We identified a huge parcel of land at Kiabonyoru High School for the proposed university but we are now being served divisive politics instead of development,” said Bosire.
Meanwhile, Kisii University is set to hold its 11th graduation ceremony on Wednesday December 20.
According to the Vice Chancellor (VC) Nathan Ogechi, the graduation ceremony will be graced by Education CS Ezekiel Machogu.
