A 27-year old man Alex Ayata Migosi, accused of murdering his elder brother’s wife and her two children, has pleaded not guilty at Kisii Law Courts.
The prosecutor, Job Okello, sought time for ongoing investigations and a mental assessment, citing concerns about Ayata’s safety in a potentially hostile home environment if released.
Magistrate Catherine Rono granted the requests, ordering Ayata’s detention for 10 days at Rioma Police Station as investigations unfold.
Ayata, visibly distressed in court, allegedly killed 22-year-old Edna Nyairo, 4-year-old Quinter Kemunto, and 3-year-old PP2 learner Mark Dismas in Nyabuogi village, with the motive seemingly connected to a dispute with his elder brother, Patrick Orina.
The suspect initially in hiding confessed to the crimes and surrendered himself at Rioma Police Station.
