One of the longest-serving head teachers in Eastern, and perhaps even in the whole country Eliud Kisilu, is an author, pastor and counsellor who has gained fame for his consuming dedication to work.
He is the head teacher of Kambu Primary School.
As he approaches retirement, he recounts his achievements in his checkered career, one of which is publishing books.
His first book ‘Treasure Troves’, published in 2018, is an account of who really is a head teacher and serves as a working guide for new school heads.
Besides, he has authored three other books; The Kenya We Yearn For, Subdue the Earth, and God’s Providence.
‘The Kenya We Yearn For’ highlights the problem of ethnic divisions and how to deal with it, environmental conservation, smart work, as well as calling upon people to be productive in building their country.
“There is no right time to author a book, some start at a young age while others prefer in their retirement. I began during my sunshine days since it’s a passion and a calling,” he adds.
Though he had challenges when he started, he is targeting to produce several bestselling books before retiring.
Kisilu, who is also a mentor, added that he is open to different forums to share his wisdom, especially with newly employed teachers.
He is proud that no teacher under him has ever been interdicted, helping most of them rise to positions of deputy and head teacher.
“My word to aspiring authors; don’t go to the grave with what you have; pass it to others through writing,” the author advises.
He started teaching in 1989 and has served as head teacher from 1996 to date.
He praised TSC for introducing teacher interaction mentorship and coaching (TIMEC), noting that it has reduced resource wastage and developed teachers in their careers.
“This is one of the best programmes which can alleviate some of the problems faced by teachers,” Kisilu said.
