Friends and relatives of an ailing grade six pupil in Busia have lauded a well-wisher, James Mabele for volunteering to airlift and volunteering to meet the medical expenses of the orphaned girl in a Nairobi hospital.

The orphaned Michele Riaba a learner at Mubwayo primary school in Bunyala Central ward, Budalangi constituency of Busia County was forced to drop out of school late last year after she developed health complications in both of her breasts.

This saw her widowed grandma who has been taking care of her, moving from one health center to another in Port Victoria ending up in Coast General Hospital in Mombasa county seeking treatment in an effort to save the life of her granddaughter.

However, her concerted effort to do this proved futile after a short period of time owing to the family’s socio-economic constraints.

However, luck came knocking at their door on Thursday 25th of May 2023 when a well-wisher who was on a “meet the people” tour eventually came across the bedridden grade six pupil in great distress and agony.

The excruciating pain the girl underwent compelled the well-wisher to cut short all his programs and shift his attention to the young schoolgirl.

After consultations with medical specialists in Nairobi, the well-wisher promptly booked a plane at Kisumu and airlifted the ailing pupil the same day accompanied by her grandmother and an aide for specialized surgery and treatment.

Speaking to Education News on Friday, Mr. Mabele who has also paid school fees for over ten needy students in Budalangi said his key aim is to utilize every resource at his disposal to support the education of children from poor households.

“Education being the key to a better future, I will utilize every opportunity within my means to ensure all needy children in Budalangi have access to education,” said Mabele.

He challenged all well-wishers and leaders to board the bandwagon and be part of his “Save A Life” program aimed at saving the life of the orphaned pupil who is still undergoing medical attention and will be discharged in a few days ahead.
