Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisii branch has asked teachers to oppose the Finance Bill 2023 because it too harsh for the common citizen at the current hard economic times.
The branch Executive Secretary Joseph Abincha noted that their members are already remitting a large chunk of their salary towards taxes.
Speaking at Riokindo Girls High School, the KUPPET boss said that Kenyans are already burdened with many urgent issues such as paying school fees for their children and finding ways of feeding their families rather than the housing scheme.
“An angry stomach does not listen and sleep until it has been well fed,” he quoted a traditional saying.
Abincha asked the government to cease over-taxing citizens by hiding under the housing scheme to recover spent money.
He blamed President Ruto and the Opposition leader Raila Odinga over engaging in political rhetoric instead of uniting to find long-lasting solutions to heal the country’s economy.
The unionist instead asked the President to revive the economy through investing heavily in agriculture and modern technology.
