- Stakeholders are calling for continued government investment to further improve training capacity and healthcare service delivery.
Investment in health training institutions continues to play a critical role in strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system, with Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kabarnet Campus emerging as a key driver of education, employment and regional development in Baringo County.
For more than three decades, the campus has trained healthcare professionals serving Baringo County, neighbouring counties and other parts of the country.
From its modest beginnings, KMTC Kabarnet has grown into one of the region’s leading health training institutions through expanded infrastructure, additional academic programmes and improved student support services.
The institution’s growth reflects continued government investment in quality health training aimed at equipping young people with practical skills while strengthening Kenya’s healthcare workforce.
“Every investment by the Government in quality health training creates opportunities for young people, strengthens healthcare delivery and contributes to building a healthier and more resilient nation,” officials at the institution said during a recent visit.
Transforming communities
Residents welcomed the continued expansion of the campus, saying it has improved access to higher education while stimulating economic activity within the county.
Esther Murgor said the institution has enabled many local students to pursue health-related courses without travelling long distances.

“KMTC Kabarnet has opened opportunities for our children to access quality training closer to home. It has also created employment and stimulated business activities within the county,” she said.
Baringo County Woman Representative Florence Jematia described the institution as a major catalyst for social and economic transformation.
“The college has played a significant role in producing skilled healthcare professionals while creating employment and supporting the local economy. Continued investment in the institution will further improve healthcare services and expand opportunities for our youth,” she said.
