The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Mombasa County Branch Executive Secretary Lynette Kamadi has asked unionists from the area to avail themselves for a peaceful demonstration against the intended housing levy proposed in the Finance Bill 2023.
Through a notice dated May 19,2023 addressed to Coast Regional Commander, the demonstrations are to take place on Tuesday May 23, 2023 from 9:00 am- 10:am.
“We will uphold article 37 of the constitution 2010 which states that we have the right to assemble, demonstrate and picket. The procession will commence from Pembe Za Ndovu area to Treasury Square from 9:00 am to 10:00 am and the participants must be peaceful and unarmed,” the notice read in part.
She asked the Regional commander to accord the union the necessary support in delivering the message to the concerned leadership.
The circular was copied to the County Commissioner, County Commander, Sub-County Commander, Urban Division, the OCS, central police station, Mombasa county Director of Education, Mombasa county TSC director, all school heads in Mombasa and the teachers from the county.
