Principals from technical institutions and national polytechnics in Kenya are in the list of 2023 Awards of Excellence Finalists by World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) posted this week.
Sammy Chemoiwa and Dan Mutai from Kenya are among featured personalities for being central figures and captain of industries in Leadership in Diversity and Inclusion and Lifetime achievement respectively.
In an announcement posted by WFCP website, Nairobi Technical Training Institute, Holmesglen Institute, Instituto Federal de Sao Paulo are the trailblazers in Applied Research and Innovation category.
Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST), TAFE Queensland, Thompson Rivers University and Weston College are this year’s catalysts in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaking to Education News, elated RVIST Principal Mr. Sammy Chemoiwa said the gesture was an honor to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions for exemplary role in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Leadership in Diversity as well as policy implementation.
The Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) Chairman noted that the recognition given by WFCP was a milestone achievement while serving technical institutions namely Kaiboi, Emining, Bureti and RVIST for the last 31 years where he served in different capacities.
“I dedicate TVET institutions for their participation in activities on Sustainable Development Goals, particularly their integral part in research. Collaboration with reputable research institutes especially in areas related trends in climate change and utilizing food sustainability,’’ said Mr. Chemoiwa.
Chemoiwa who is also a member of Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (ATUPA) headquartered in Nairobi hinted that his extend in community activities like training farmers and sponsoring them has made significant role in inclusivity.
He said community activities; mentorship programmes and family attributions have led to his successful journey to be recognized in the global scene.
Former Principal RVIST, Dr. Dan Mutai, a Bronze medalist WFCP 2022 in Basque region, Spain and this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award Finalist will be travelling to Montreal Canada with his predecessor to present their congress papers for nominations on 23, 24 and 25 this month at the WFCP Conference in Canada.
A panel of 41 judges from different countries, Kenya excluded, in various disciplines will decides nominees for Gold, Silver and Bronze categories during the gala.
