Nominated Senator, Essy Okenyuri, has started drumming up support for the health awareness program for the young girls and those going to school.
Speaking during the International Women’s Day celebrations in Kisii County yesterday, UDA’s nominated Senator noted that young girls who are in school have been traumatized severally and on different occasions due to their health issues.

She called upon all stakeholders to join hands and help uplift the girl child whenever stigma affecting them is apparent.
“It really worries that till now there are persons who subject these school going girls to ridicule just because of the body development while others are taking advantage of it now and again,” she said adding that she will not relent from assisting these girls to realize their space and importance in society.
Okenyuri has indicated that she will rally the women fraternity in Gusii region to have a conversation on best way to handle young girls’ issues that range from rape, adolescence, teenage pregnancies and dropping out of school.
“It will be an all-inclusive engagement on which way to have restoration of discipline and respect to the girl child from home and learning institutions,” she posed admitting that even learning institutions, age sets and age groups will be taken as a stepping stone in effecting this transformation.
According to her, as a Member of the Senate Committee on Health, she will champion on ways of making health a condition to young girls with the prospect of transforming the community as a whole.
She called upon the provincial administration operatives to be supportive on matters school dropout cases, rape and teenage marriages that have ruined lives of many from the areas negatively.
