Top MMU student awarded Optica scholarship

A Bachelor of Science in Applied Optics and Laser undergraduate at Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) has been awarded an International Amplify scholarship by the Optica Foundation USA during the varsity’s 9th graduation ceremony held on December 2.

Sheilah Mukami Njoka secured the scholarship after she was recognized by the MMU Vice Chancellor (VC) Festus Kaberia as this year’s Valedictorian.

Speaking during the event, Mukami lauded the foundation for the opportunity to further her education. She also acknowledged the MMU fraternity, her parents, relatives and her friends who contributed to her performance.

“It has not being an easy journey to get here today. It has been a long one but as the graduates of 2022 we have sailed in the raging sea to reach this point,” she added.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Communication Authority of Kenya, Ezra Chiloba who was the guest speaker at the event themed ‘Imparting Innovative Knowledge for a Prosperous Society’ advised the graduates to fully utilize the skills they have acquired from the university to enhance their individual and the society’s  growth.

“From today’s theme, we should be innovative to thrive in today’s extremely competitive world. We should also restrict ourselves from comfort and cultivate open-minded and innovative mindsets,” he said.

Chiloba told the graduates that to have a prosperous society,they need to overcome the invisible force of gravity by taking risk, finding long term opportunities and also being ready to open up to new ideas.

“Through this, the society will develop and new opportunities will follow.” He concluded.
