Kitutu Chache North MP, Mr. Japhet Mokaya Nyakundi has said that a partnership between the Constituency and the National Youth Service (NYS) to provide training in the local vocational training centres was in the works.
Speaking at Kisii town yesterday, he revealed that the NYS will send 300 youth to be distributed among the 6 polytechnics in his constituency with Masakwe, Nyaore, Riragia and Gundo as the first ones slated to get the manpower early next year.
The MP asked parents to enroll their children in the institutions in big numbers in order to benefit from the variety of available courses.
Furthermore, the MP decried the low standards of education in the area and said he will work hand in hand with teachers and parents to find ways to assist schools produce improved exam results.
“Education begins with teachers. I will start by working with them and reward the performing ones while transferring the lazy ones,” he said.
Mr. Nyakundi added that he will liaise with the county government to drill boreholes to provide water in every school.
“The availability of water in our schools will reduce the long distances that students walk to look for water instead of concentrating on their classwork,” he said.
