Unionist urges teachers to support merging of schools into exam centers

Kibwezi branch of Kenya Union of Teachers (KNUT) Chairman Christopher Kitua has encouraged schools to accept the changes that have seen exam centres merged, saying it was prudent for proper management.

While speaking to Education Newspaper, Kitua said the merging is unavoidable since exams are already starting reminding parents, learners and teachers that it used to happen years ago and that they have to welcome it.

“Well, there will be challenged but I believe they will be addressed accordingly as the exams take place. I wish the candidates all the best in their exams,” said Kitua.

He however said he does not expect cheating from any school urging teachers to let candidates apply what they have learnt while in school.

The unionist observed that many candidates who leak exams and secure positions in top schools and university end up performing poorly.

He called for harmony between teachers, parents, candidates and BoMs during the exam period.

To teachers joining politics, he called for them to join in good numbers, saying that when teachers are in political positions, they will consider other teachers interests easily.

So far, the branch has registered around 1,200 new KNUT members. He also called upon teachers to fill blue forms through their branches adding that the numbers will give them enough bargaining strength.
