KNEC begins training of 2022 KCPE, KCSE examiners

A good number of teachers will be taking part in the ongoing Kenya National Examination Council’s (KNEC) training this holiday as examiners with the training set to end on September 24, 2022.

The training which started September 18, 2022 will involve those teachers who qualified when KNEC advertised the slots and those who  applied online through the KNEC portal.

The full time training which required qualified teachers to pay a training fee of Ksh.10,500 involves teachers who will participate in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

For KCPE the training entails English Composition and Kiswahili Insha papers; while for KCSE the training comprises of History and Government, Geography, Religious Education (Christian and Islamic), Agriculture, Home Science, Computer Studies and Biology papers.

According to KNEC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. David Njeng’ere, the examiners are required to be relevant in the subject area at the level of examination and be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Other requirements include a minimum of P1 qualification for KCPE examiners and a minimum of  a C (plain) at KCSE level in the subject area they are applying for, Diploma in Education, minimum teaching experience of 3 years, recommendation by head of institution, should not have any disciplinary case with TSC and should be below 50 years.

The KCPE examination is expected to start on Monday, November 28 after rehearsals on Friday, November 25.

The candidates will start with Mathematics, English Language and Composition papers; Science, Kiswahili Lugha and Insha papers will follow on Tuesday November 29, 2022 before Social Studies and Religious Education papers completing the examinations the following day.

KCSE on the other hand will start on Friday December 2, 2022 after their rehearsals on Friday November 18, 2022 though practical papers in Home Science, Music and other technical subjects, foreign languages and Kenya Sign Language, and Music will begin much earlier from Monday November 21, 2022 to December 1, 2022.

The KCSE examination is expected to end on Friday December 23, 2022 with Physics Practical days to Christmas.
