- Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has provided new uniforms to learners at two schools in Elgeyo Marakwet.
- The donation fulfils a promise he made during an earlier visit to his former primary school.
- The exercise also included prayers and motivational talks for Grade 6 and Grade 9 learners.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen has gifted new school uniforms to learners at St Michael and Chawis Primary Schools in fulfilment of a promise he made during a recent visit to the institutions.
The CS, who is an alumnus of Chawis Primary School, had pledged to provide new uniforms for learners from PP1 to Grade 9 as a token of appreciation and gratitude to his former school.
Murkomen’s attendance at Chawis Primary School in Embobut, Marakwet East, is documented in parliamentary records, where he has previously reflected on his experience as a learner there. He currently serves as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.
Delivering the promise on behalf of the CS, Evans Kitum handed over the uniforms to the school communities during a ceremony held at the institutions.
According to Kitum, the gesture was heartfelt and aimed at giving back to Murkomen’s former school and, more importantly, inspiring the young learners to dream bigger and aim higher in their academic journey.
“It was a heartfelt gesture of giving back to his former school and inspiring the young learners to dream bigger and aim higher,” the representative said while handing over the uniforms.
Alongside the uniform handover, the team held a prayer and motivational session for Grade 6 and Grade 9 learners at Chawis Primary School ahead of their national assessments.
Kitum, also an alumnus of the school, described the visit as nostalgic, saying he walked the same grounds where he studied and shared his personal story to encourage learners.
“It was truly nostalgic returning to my alma mater, walking the same grounds, and having the opportunity to share my story and encourage the students to work hard, remain focused, and give their very best as they prepare for their examinations,” he said.
Learners encouraged to remain focused
The day was wrapped up with an inspiring message to the learners by Kitum’s elder brother, Mr Kilimo Ruto, who urged them to remain disciplined, focused and God-fearing as they prepare for their national assessments.
Parents, teachers and learners from the two schools lauded Murkomen for the gesture, saying the uniforms would go a long way in boosting the morale and dignity of learners, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds.

School heads said the visit had not only motivated the learners but also rekindled the spirit of alumni giving back to their former schools.
