Shock as family members go blind, leaving school boy and cat dead

A village in Uriri constituency of Migori County is in dismay after six family members fell and became blind in a shocking event that left a 12-year old Manyatta Primary School boy dead.

According to the Sub-location assistant chief Kerry Otieno who visited the scene, the incident took place on Friday night at around 2100hrs.

Otieno noted that at the time the victims fell on the ground, they lost both their sights and other senses. She expressed the agony that also affected the family cat which died and only left George Omondi, the family head without being affected.

“The family of George Omondi lost their sights and senses under mysterious circumstances. Among them, a 12-year old died the following morning and his body was been moved to Ombo Hospital Mortuary,” Said Otieno.

The Assistant Chief also noted that Omondi rushed to call on religious leaders for spiritual assistance immediately the incident happened, after which they made prayers until the children were able to regain their sight and could now acknowledge their father’s voice when he called their names.

“He went back to call on the religious leaders early morning after which they realized the 12-year old grade four pupil at Manyatta primary school had passed on,” added Otieno.

She also told the Education News that the boy who had died was Mr. Omondis’ step-brothers’ son and that his wife had not yet recovered her sight and senses.

The affected children are aged: four, a pupil in pre-primary 2, seven year old in grade 1, 14-years in class six, a 24-year old and their mother who is of middle age.

The cause harrowing incident has not yet been established.
