Youth encouraged to engage in government programmes to access job opportunities

  • Youth in Makueni County have been urged to to actively participate in government programmes, noting that they are designed to create employment opportunities while improving infrastructure and promoting environmental conservation.
  • Makueni CEC Sebastian Kyonisaid the county government remains committed to rolling out youth empowerment initiatives that not only generate income but also keep young people engaged productively, thereby reducing exposure to crime and other social vices.

Makueni County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Gender, Youth, Sports, Children and Social Services Sebastian Kyoni has urged young people to actively participate in government programmes, noting that they are designed to create employment opportunities while improving infrastructure and promoting environmental conservation.

Kyoni said the county government remains committed to rolling out youth empowerment initiatives that not only generate income but also keep young people engaged productively, thereby reducing exposure to crime and other social vices.

He made the remarks in Nguu Masumba Ward during the conclusion of the “Ajira kwa Vijana” programme, which marked the fifth and final ward in its rollout across the county.

The programme had earlier been implemented in Wote-Nziu, Makindu, Nguumo, and Kikumbulyu North wards. In total, the county allocated KSh 8 million, benefiting more than 2,200 casual workers.

“In Nguu Masumba Ward, 263 casual workers were engaged under a KSh 1 million allocation to carry out bush clearing, drainage maintenance, and environmental improvement activities,” Kyoni said.

Nguu Masumba Ward becomes the final ward to benefit from the initiative, effectively concluding the countywide programme spearheaded by the county government.

Area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Daniel Musau called on residents to actively participate in public participation forums to support the continuity and expansion of such development programmes.
