With the countdown to the 2026 Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Ball Games entering its final stretch, teams from the Western Region have received revised travel and competition guidelines as they intensify preparations for the championships scheduled for July 26 to August 2 at the M-PESA Foundation Academy in Thika, Kiambu County.

The official corrigendum released by KSSSA organisers introduces key changes aimed at ensuring smooth coordination of the week-long competition, which will bring together the country’s top secondary school teams competing for national honours and qualification to the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games.

Under the revised programme, all Western Region teams will assemble at Kakamega School on Sunday, July 26, before departing for Thika on Monday, July 27.

The centralised departure is expected to improve coordination and ease the movement of teams to the championship venue.

The tournament will run until Sunday, August 2, with teams that fail to secure FEASSSA qualification expected to travel home on Monday, August 3.

Schools that qualify for the East African championships will remain in Thika and report for FEASSSA preparations on the same day.

Organisers have confirmed that girls’ teams will be accommodated at Mary Hill Girls High School, while boys’ teams will stay at Mang’u High School.

Most of the newly introduced ball games will be played at Mang’u High School, while Scrabble and Chess competitions will be staged at the M-PESA Foundation Academy.

Traditional games under the Term Two calendar will also be hosted at the academy.

Schools to facilitate transport and coaches

The Ministry of Education will cater for meals, accommodation and referees for the newly introduced games, while participating schools will be responsible for facilitating coaches and transporting their teams.

Referees have been instructed to report to the M-PESA Foundation Academy by 8.00 a.m. on Sunday, July 26.

Organisers warned that late arrivals would be replaced to avoid disrupting the competition schedule.

The championship’s official opening ceremony has been scheduled for Wednesday, July 29, at the M-PESA Foundation Academy.

The event is expected to attract education officials, sports administrators and hundreds of student-athletes from across the country.

Western Region heads into the national championships with high expectations following strong performances during the regional games.

Several schools will be aiming not only to lift national titles but also to secure coveted tickets to the 2026 FEASSSA Games, where Kenya’s finest secondary school teams will compete against regional rivals from East Africa.
