- Fredrick Sunguti of St. Luke’s Kimilili Boys Senior School received a county-level award at the Kimilili Sub-County World Teachers’ Day Awards presided over by the County Director of Education.
- At St. Anne’s Musoli Girls in Kakamega, Emily Mutondo won the Western Region women’s 10km title, with Carren Atieno third in the same race.
- Head of Games Diana Kalumba finished third in the 5km category, with Joan Ndiwa and Ameda close behind, showcasing teachers’ roles beyond the classroom.
Teachers from schools in Western Kenya have earned recognition in this year’s World Teachers’ Day celebrations, with educators from St. Luke’s Kimilili Boys Senior School and St. Anne’s Musoli Girls Senior School posting notable achievements.
At the Kimilili Sub-County World Teachers’ Day Awards, St. Luke’s Kimilili Boys Senior School teacher Fredrick Sunguti received a county-level award in recognition of his contribution to the teaching profession.
The ceremony was presided over by the County Director of Education and brought together education stakeholders to recognise teachers for their service and contribution to the development of learners.
Sunguti’s recognition was welcomed by the St. Luke’s Kimilili Boys Senior School fraternity, which congratulated him on the achievement.
Meanwhile, teachers from St. Anne’s Musoli Girls Senior School in Kakamega County posted strong results in the 2026 World Teachers’ Day Run.

Emily Mutondo emerged the Western Region female champion in the 10-kilometre category, while her colleague Carren Atieno finished third in the same category.
In the 5km category, St. Anne’s Musoli Girls Head of Department for Games, Diana Kalumba, finished third.
Joan Ndiwa and Ameda also posted notable performances, finishing closely behind Kalumba.

The achievements came as teachers across the region participated in activities marking World Teachers’ Day, providing an opportunity to recognise their contribution to education and community development.
The awards and sporting performances highlighted the diverse roles played by teachers beyond classroom instruction, including mentorship, co-curricular activities and promotion of healthy lifestyles.
